Coconut Buton Coconut Buton

About us

Built in Buton, aimed at the world.

We are a coconut derivatives producer working directly with farming households in Southeast Sulawesi.

Our story

How Coconut Buton started

Coconut Buton International works with coconut farmers around Buton Regency, Southeast Sulawesi — one of Indonesia's coconut-growing regions. We buy the coconut, process it ourselves in Baubau, and pack it for the buyer. No layers of middlemen between the farm and the container.

  1. 2025

    The analysis came first

Coconut Buton International was established in 2025, after a study of how much coconut derivative other countries buy and how little of it Indonesia processes itself. Buton had the raw material. What it lacked was someone turning it into export-grade product locally.

  2. 2025

    Farmer network in Buton Regency

We started buying directly from farming households instead of through layers of middlemen. Fixed collection points, weighed and paid on the spot.

  3. 2025

A production yard first, a factory next

We process from our own yard in Bungi, Baubau — currently 10 tonnes of charcoal, 17 tonnes of coir fibre and 21 tonnes of cocopeat per month. Charcoal was the first product we made. The factory on Jalan Anoa is under construction; until it is finished we would rather you hear that from us than discover it at an audit.

  4. 2025

First container — domestic, on purpose

Our first container of coconut charcoal left Baubau for Tanjung Priok, Jakarta. Domestic, not export — and that was deliberate. We learned stuffing, documents and quality control on a route where a mistake is recoverable, before asking an overseas buyer to trust us with one.

Focus

What we concentrate on

Coconut has many derivatives. We are deliberate about which ones we build capacity for.

Energy & industrial

Coconut charcoal and activated carbon. The highest value per tonne, and the segment we invest in first.

Agri raw material

Copra, coconut fibre, husk and cocopeat. Steady volume that keeps the farmer network working all year.

Food & consumer

Coconut oil and coconut milk. Where our processing moves next as capacity grows.

Direction

Vision

To make Buton a place where coconut is finished, not just harvested — so that the value of Indonesian coconut stays with the people who grow it.

Mission

  • Buy directly from farming households at a fair, transparent, on-the-spot price.
  • Process locally in Buton rather than shipping raw material away to be finished elsewhere.
  • Meet written specifications, every batch, for domestic and international buyers alike.
  • Grow the facility from a small plant into a local industry that employs the villages around it.

Social

Who this is actually for

An export business in a regency like Buton is judged by what it leaves behind.

Fair, immediate payment

Farmers are weighed and paid at the collection point. No deferred payment, no debt bondage to a middleman.

Work close to home

Most of our team comes from the villages around the facility. Processing in Buton means jobs stay in Buton.

Less waste

Husk and shell that used to be burned in the field now become fibre, cocopeat and charcoal.

Team

The people behind it

Four people. Small enough that you will speak to the person who actually handles your order.
